LSA offers supportive classrooms for students in kindergarten through high school who benefit from a highly individualized, functional approach to learning. These classrooms emphasize therapy, communication, daily living skills, social development, and increasing independence at school, at home, and in the community.
Academic instruction is included, but the primary goal is not necessarily to bring students to grade level. Instead, students develop practical reading, writing, math, and problem-solving skills that support communication, personal safety, independence, community participation, and future vocational opportunities. Instruction is adapted to each student’s developmental level and taught through hands-on activities, repetition, and meaningful daily routines.
Supportive classrooms provide additional structure, prompting, and individualized assistance within a small-group setting. Students must have the basic communication, behavior, mobility, and self-care skills needed to participate safely and successfully without continuous one-to-one support.
